ITALIAN PAVILION AT INDIA INTERNATIONAL JEWELLERY SHOW
4 – 8 August, Mumbai: 9 Italian Jewellery Companies at IIJS 2011  

# The India International Jewellery Show (IIJS), now in its 28th year is to be held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. This Show is reaping huge benefits with participation from more than 800 leading companies from India and overseas. IIJS has proved to be an extremely pleasant and profitable Show for the gem and jewellery industry. Nine Italian companies are having their pavilion at the show. The companies are Penta Preziosi, Tecnor Spa, Botecchi Ivo srl, Aura srl, Sigi Italia, Leading Italia Jewels, Imma srl, Effepi Gioielli srl and Blue & white groups srl. The Government will be shortly launching an international ‘Made in India’ campaign to showcase India’s impressive capabilities in the manufacturing sector, including its potential as a global jewellery hub.

GOVT REMOVES COTTON EXPORT RESTRICTIONS   FORD TO INVEST $1 BILLION IN GUJARAT PLANT
# The government on the 31st of July, 2011 removed restrictions on cotton exports, ending a quota regime that was considered to be against international trade rules. The cotton surplus at the end of the current season in September 2011 will be 5.2 million bales, according to the estimates of the Cotton Advisory Board (CAB), on account of lower industry demand. Projections for domestic consumption for the season have been lowered to 23.6 million bales, compared with an earlier estimate of 26.5 million bales, on account of high inventories. CAB’s cotton production projection for the current season is now 32.5 million bales.

# Ford Motor Co. the second-largest US auto maker, announced its plans to set up a $1 Billion car and engine manufacturing project in Gujarat as it seeks to drive as much as 70% of its growth from Asia-Pacific and Africa by the middle of this decade. Ford aims to bring more than 50 new vehicles and engines to these markets. Ford is the fifth largest carmaker in the world in terms of volumes, trailing behind Hyundai Motor Co., Volkswagen AG, General Motors Co. and Toyota Motor Corp., as per 2010 global sales figures. In Gujarat, Ford India Pvt. Ltd will invest in two facilities at Sanand, close to Tata Motors Ltd’s Nano small-car plant. This includes a vehicle manufacturing facility with an initial annual capacity of 240,000 units and another factory with a capacity for manufacturing 270,000 engines a year.

GOVT. OF INDIA RELEASES THE ESTIMATES OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION FOR MAY 2011
 
#The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94 for the month of May 2011 have been released by the Central Statistics Office of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The General Index stands at 335.5, which is 3.6% higher as compared to the level in the month of May 2010. The cumulative growth for the period April - May, 2010-11 stands at 4.0% over the corresponding period of the previous year. To view the press note in detail please click here

UCIMU & ASSOCOMAPLAST PROPOSE TO ESTABLISH A BUSINESS PLATFORM IN INDIA
 
# UCIMU (Association of Italian Manufacturers of Machine Tools, Robots Automation Systems & Ancillary Products) in collaboration with ASSOCOMAPLAST (Italian Plastic & Rubber Processing Machinery & Moulds Manufacturers Association) have launched an innovative project names "Piattaforma India". Prof. Luigi Seri, Professor of Economics & Business Management in the University of Cattolica, Milan is coordinating the project. The project aims at establishing a garrison in the Indian market with a "physical structure" which will be established by a group of Italian companies in the selection of service providers. This platform will offer a setting up support, in creation of an institutional network aimed at strengthening the reputation of Italian technology in India. The project is in the initial phase and next phase of "testing" will be being done in November'2011.

GLOBAL FASHION BRANDS EYE PACTS WITH RETAILERS FOR ENTRY INTO INDIA
 
# The coming months could see a slew of high-end global fashion brands entering the $4.6 billion (around Rs. 20,700 crore) Indian luxury market, through partnerships with domestic retailers like Reliance Brands, DLF Retail Brands and others. Italian luxury apparel player Emilo Pucci, designer handbag manufacturer Krizia (also from Italy) and American high street casual wear brand Brooks Brothers are likely to set up operations in India soon. ITALY’S SHOE BRANDS TARGET INDIAN MARKETS
 
# As financial slowdown hits demand in Europe, leading footwear brands from Italy are now looking at India as a big potential market for their products. Renowned Italian shoe brands like Fabi, Lori Blu, Giovanni Fabiani and Primigi have already showcased their products in India for the first time at Expo Riva Schuh fair that was held in New Delhi in July 2011. The three-day international leather and accessories fair that was jointly held by Expo Riva International, Italian Trade Commission and Council for Leather Exports showcased 39 Italian brands, products of 77 Indian companies, 84 other European firms and other parts of the world.
