Get to know the most celebrated Indian fashion designer
 
# Erica Di Giovancarlo, head of the Italian Trade Commission in India, meets celebrated Indian fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani – a.k.a. the "Giorgio Armani of India" - in his new atelier in Delhi. Tarun show's us around his new lovely space, and shares with us his views on the world of fashion in India and Italy, his favorite fabrics and colors, the worries about counterfeiting of his brand, the influence of Bollywood on Indian fashion and his preferred Italian designers. Tarun Tahiliani also tells ue about his beginnings as a young designer in Mumbai, the role and influence of colonialism in shaping Indian taste and hints about the future of his group. Tarun Tahiliani made his breakthrough in the international world of fashion after he presented his Spring Summer 2005 show at The Fashion Coterie in New York, and at the Milan Fashion Week in 2004. In 2006, the Italian Government conferred to him Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity. Tarun Tahiliani lives and works in New Delhi.
 
 
MUMBAI: ITALIAN PAVILION AT THE MDA INDIA 2010: 15 – 18 DECEMBER   INDIAN INFRASTRUCTURE MINISTER KAMAL NATH TO VISIT ITALY
# Italian Trade Commission, Mumbai is organizing the Italy country pavilion at the forthcoming MDA 2010 trade fair to be held in Mumbai. MDA is the leading trade fair in India for motion, drive and automation technology (complete gamut of hydraulics, pneumatics and electromechanical). # Mr. Kamal Nath, Union Cabinet Minister for Road Transport and Higwway will be in Italy from 15 – 16 of December. On December 15 at 2 pm a round table will be held in honour of Kamal Nath at the headquarters of Confindustria (the Italian Industry Association) in Rome. The round table will consist of 15 Indian CEO's and around 30 Italian CEO's to see the possibilities of investment in both countries in the sector. There will also be an interactive session with questions and answer. Union Minister Mr. Kamal Nath and a FICCI representative will give out key notes on cooperation and investment breaks for Italian companies.

It will be an interactive session trying to bring out the real openings arising from investments in the Indian sector and will also deal with the problems of the existing Indian market for foreign companies.

MACRO ECONOMIC UPDATES
 
FOOD INFLATION DECLINES TO 10.30%
 
# Food inflation fell by 2% to a three-month low of 10.30 per cent in the first week of November on the back of increased supplies following the end of the monsoons. This is for the fifth week in a row that food inflation has fallen on the back of enhanced crop arrivals in markets across the country as supply disruptions caused by heavy rains ended. It is also the first time after a long gap that food inflation has been lower during a particular period than the corresponding period of the previous year which was at 13.99%. In fact, the large base last year was another factor that made food inflation for the week ended November 6 seem lower. Decline food inflation may lead to a fall in overall inflation, which the government expects to come down to 6% by the end of the year from 8.58 per cent in October. 8.9% GROWTH IN GDP FOR INDIAN ECONOMY
 
# India's economy grew above expectations at 8.9% in the second quarter of the current fiscal, according to data released by the Central Statistical Organisation on 30th November, triggering expectations the Reserve Bank could increase interest rates in December. The figures even surpassed the expectations of analysts who though it would rise to approximately 8.3%. After the growth of 7.4% last year, India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh opined that the economy will escalate to 8.5% this year. After this news was released he predicts that the economy can soar towards a 10% growth in the next 2-3 years challenging the growth rate of China.

# The IPR Desk of Italian Trade Commission New Delhi is organizing a seminar on safe technology transfer. This seminar will be held at The Oberoi Grand and will provide an overview of Indian Intellectual Property (IP) Laws, as well as means for protecting foreign IP Rights in India. It will then focus specifically on the process of transferring technology, by a foreign company, from negotiation, through to the methods that can be used to make the transfer, to drafting of contracts. # Global power cable major Prysmian Cables and Systems has acquired majority of its hold in Ravin Cables in a bid to foray into the Indian market. Prysmian is the world's second biggest brand in the power cabling and accessories market and has a wide range of product offerings in high and extra high voltage segments. The Italian manufacturer plans to introduce these products in the Indian market which would help Indian utilities reduce high transmission and distribution losses. RPG GROUP OF COMPANIES ACQUIRES GLOBAL RIGHTS OF BRAND CEAT FROM PIRELLI
 
CEAT Ltd., one of the leading tyre manufacturers of India and a part of RPG Group of Companies, announced on 29th of November that it is acquiring the "CEAT" Brand from Pirelli & C. SpA for 9 million Euros (Rs 55 crore). CEAT Ltd. is currently the owner of the CEAT brand in 9 South Asian countries. Pirelli is the owner of the CEAT Trademark in the rest of the world. This will allow the company to export radial and cross-ply tyres to the whole world, under the CEAT brand name. CEAT currently exports its tyres to Europe and South America in the "Altura" brand. ITALIAN LAMBRETTA TO SEEK EURO 10 MILLION CLAIM FROM SCOOTERS INDIA LTD.
 
Italian two-wheeler maker Lambretta Consortium said that it will seek claim of over 10 million euros (about Rs 60 crore) from Scooters India Ltd following a favourable court order in Europe regarding their trademark infringement dispute. 'Lambretta Consortium', the sole and exclusive owner and holder of the Lambretta trade name and trademarks, has today named 'Scooters India Limited' in connection with the unlawful licensing of Lambretta trademark rights in the European Union. BENETTON LOWERS ITS STAKE IN INDIA'S RETAIL ASSETS
 
Italian fashion retailer Benetton has offloaded about 100 directly-owned stores to its franchise network in India in recent months as the company looks to de-risk its profitable and rapidly expanding Indian operations. The purpose to divest its direct retail interest and to reinvent its local arm as a pure play wholesale trading entity comes from the growing excitement on the possibility of the government relaxing Foreign Direct Investment norms in retailing. INDIA'S SURYAJYOTI MILLS TIES UP WITH ITALIAN FIRM PANGEA SRL
 
Suryajyoti Spinning Mills is drawing up plans to get into garment production in the next few months, a major part of which will be exported to leading global brands in the apparel segment. The company has tied up with Italian firm Pangea SRL – one of their major customers that services labels such as Dolce and Gabbana, Giorgio Armani and Roberto Cavali, to set up the country's first bottom-weight fabric weaving, dyeing and finishing plant. 14 ITALIAN STUDENTS FROM THE MILAN POLITECNICO SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT, AT IIML NOIDA CAMPUS
 
On 19th November, a batch of 14 Italian students from MIP, Milano left for IIML Noida campus, India which had hosted a five day seminar on 'Doing Business in India' for these Executive MBA students. The primary purpose of this seminar is to reach out to other business schools and build more partnerships at a global level and also helps in developing research through such initiatives. Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India(Assocham) is seeking Italian expertise to upgrade manufacturing technology of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with a view to make them completely global. The primary purpose is cluster branding to strengthen marketing of products manufactured by SMEs and improve their overall income generation and profit. The chamber is focusing particularly on SMEs because inspit of having little money available with them to improve their technology and marketing network yet they contributed to 40 percent of the state's gross domestic product. # The first-ever showcase of Anish Kapoor, one of the most influential sculptors of his generation will be presented at the Mehboob Studios, Mumbai. The showcase is presented by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the National Galery of Modern Art, together with the British Council and Lisson Galery in association with Louis Vuitton. It will focus on a different strand of the artist's practice and together will form one of the largest and most ambitious showcases of the artist's work ever to be shown. The PIME, Museo dei Popoli e Culture of Milan, is showcasing an interesting showcase of unknown treasures of Indian tribal art. The objects were put together by Roberta Ceolin and Claudio Tirelli in over 30 years of tour, studies and research. Sculptures in bronze, copper and wood, paintings, musical instruments, ornaments and more will be on exhibit. 16 – 30 DEC CHENNAI: EXHIBITION ON ROMAN OBJECTS & COINS
 
The showcase will display ancient Roman objects, mainly coins, found in India along with photographs and related documentation of objectsoriginally in India. The main objective is to highlight the salient features of the active commercial and cultural contacts that existed between ancient Rome and Southern India. The showcase will also feature sets from the Government Institution in Chennai along with the pieces of the relevant sets in the universities in Europe. This documentation has been researched and compiled by Dr. S. Suresh, an archaeologist with a PhD in Roman Archaeology. ITALIAN PRODUCER GIULIA ACHILLI PRODUCES NEW DOCUMENTARY BY ASHIWIN KUMAR "INSHALLAH FO OTBALL"
 
Ashvin Kumar is a renowned writer, editor, producer and director from Calcutta. He has produced and directed a critically acclaimed movie like The Forest. His latest documentary "Inshallah Foot ball" has been produced in Italy by an Italian producer Giulia Achilli. This documentary is set up in Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir. It revolves around the life of Basharat, 18 year-old Muslim sportsman, refused a pasport by the Indian government because of his fathers membership in the military force militias fighting against Indian troops in Kashmir.
