ITALIAN PAVILION AT AERO INDIA 2011
9-13 February, Bangalore
 
# The Italian Trade Commission in Mumbai is organizing an Italian Pavilion at the Aero India show. The 8th edition of Aero India is being held from 09 to 13 February 2011 at Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru. The Italian pavilion will have leading Italian companies with state of the art products & technologies on display from the Finmeccanica group, Augusta Westland, Alenia Aeronautica, Selex Communications, Selex Galileo to ASE Aerospace Electrical Systems, Breton Spa, Elettronica Aster, Northrop Grumann & Seconda Mona. ITALIAN PAVILION AT IILF 2011          CHENNAI 31 JAN - 3 FEB   ITALIAN PAVILION AT TASTE 2011 MUMBAI 27 - 29 JANUARY
# The Italian Trade Commission in Chennai, together with Assomac, the Association that represents the Italian manufacturers of machines for footwear, leather and tanneries industries will be present with an Italian Pavilion at the India International Leather Fair (IILF) in Chennai.
15 leading Italian companies will have on display the entire innovative range of products relating to leather industry from raw material to finished products and auxiliary products such as finished leather; shoes, leather garments, fashion accessories, leather goods - wallets, belts, gloves, portfolios, hand bags, machinery and equipment and chemicals. The fair attracts a large number of participants from all over the world.

# The Italian Trade Commission is organising the Italian pavilion at TASTE 2011, where there will be 20 Italian companies in the Italian pavilion showcasing their specialty in food & vine. TASTE 2011 India’s dedicated Business-to-Business exhibit for global food and beverage suppliers who wish to generate business with India’s most influential professionals from the industry. TASTE is the one stop place for buyers representing the Indian Food Market. RULES & REGULATIONS
 
BAN ON ONIONS EXPORT TO TAME PRICES
 
# The government on the 20th of December decided to suspend onion exports till January 15 to improve domestic supplies as onion prices went through the roof doubling in just one day due to failure of kharif crop. Supplies of onion in all parts of the country have been badly hit due to unseasonal rains in Maharashtra and Rajasthan, two major grower of onion in the country. After an emergency meeting of the food ministry, agriculture cooperative major Nafed, which regulates onion exports, has been asked to stop giving fresh clearance to exporters. The government has also made exports almost impossible for those who are already in possession of 'No objection Certificate' (NOC) given by Nafed. For more information please click here

INDIA & ITALY TO SIGN MoU FOR ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE
 
# India and Italy have agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding for enhancing their bilateral technical cooperation in the road infrastructure sector and facilitating greater involvement of Italian infrastructure companies in highway projects in this India. The need for an MoU was felt and agreed upon when Minister for Road Transport and Highways Kamal Nath had talks with Italian Minister for Economic Development Paolo Romani in Rome on the 15th of Dec. The meeting also decided that a trade delegation comprising officials from the Italian Economic Development Ministry, the Foreign Ministry and about 200 business delegates representing various sectors, including infrastructure, would be in India in early 2011. M&M SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH MASCHIO-GASPARDO
 
# Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M), in the Indian tractor industry and Maschio-Gaspardo S.p.A, Italy, one of the leading brands internationally for rotary tillage equipments, signed an agreement for cooperation and exclusive supply of complete range of rotary tillage equipment to Mahindra AppliTrac business. The cooperation would be initiated by launching rotavators manufactured by Maschio exclusively under the Mahindra brand name. The rotavators will be made available through Mahindra & Swaraj dealerships. Under the agreement other rotary tillage equipments for planting, seeding, crop care and Maschio would also supply crop residue management to Mahindra AppliTrac business. ELECTRO POWER SYSTEM SPA OF ITALY LAUNCHES ELECTROSELF IN INDIA
 
# Electro Power Systems SpA of Italy has launched in India lectroSelf, the world's first entirely self-recharging fuel cell system for backup power. The company claimed that the trials, including those carried out in India, proved that ElectroSelf generates significant savings for operators and tower companies while overcoming the problems related to frequent on-site checks and heavy maintenance. It is designed to deliver reliable backup power for mobile networks in any location, whether off-grid in locations with unreliable power, or in extreme climates, claimed the company. The self-contained and self-recharging fuel-cell system consumes only water, produces zero greenhouse gas emissions and can be installed to backup renewable or mains power. ITALIAN BRAND CHATEAU D'AX MAKES INDIA DEBUT
 
# S K Poddar Group’s, a furniture company has signed a deal with Chateau d'Ax to become master franchisee of the brand in India for a period of 15 years. The plan is to open nine exclusive 'Chateau d'Ax' stores in major cities of India in the next three years. The deal between the two companies marks Chateau d'Ax's entry into India and Style Spa's presence in the premium furniture market. The first exclusive outlet would come up in March 2012 that would entail an investment of up to 2 crore. GITANJALI GEMS TAKES ITALIAN COMPANY GIANTTI ITALIA S.R.L
 
Gitanjali Gems has acquired 90% share in 'Giantti Italia S.R.L.', a Company based in Milan, Italy. The Company has acquired the said share from its Dubai based wholly owned subsidiary 'Gitanjali Ventures DMCC'. By this 'Giantti Italia S.R.L.' has become a direct subsidiary of the Company. It aims at growth of the branded jewellery business of global companies and also to gain the designing and branding concepts expertise from Italy. The main object of this unit will be to focus on the business of the company in European Region and conduct core diamond and jewellery business in that continent.
 
TATA INTERNATIONALS GETS REMAINING 50% OF ITALIAN JV GRAZIELLA SHOES
 
Tata International recently acquired the 50 per cent share held by its Italian joint venture partner Pucci Dante in Graziella Shoes. The Tatas have also acquired the assets and inventories of Davinci Leather one of the dedicated converters of leather for Graziella. The joint venture company manufactures shoes mainly for the British and European markets and is one the main suppliers of footwear to chains such as Marks and Spencer and Clarks. Tata Internationals hopes to have a network of around 250-300 stores retailing primarily their own brands of footwear and lifestyle accessories such as bags, belts, etc over the next four to five years as it attempts to establish itself in the Rs 4,000 crore market for asprational footwear in India. MGM SPA AND VARVEL SPA CREATE INDIAN JV “MGM-VARVEL POWER TRANSMISSION PVT LTD”
 
Two important realities of the Italian mechanical sector, MGM Motori Elettrici SpA and Varvel SpA, get into a joint venture ‘MGM-VARVEL Power Transmission Pvt. Ltd.’ The new business will be headquartered in India, with a plant in the city of Chennai, which is scheduled to officially open by February 2011. India represents a new opportunity despite significant signs of recovery in the mechanical trade, both in the domestic and foreign market, hence they have decided to proceed with this new investment to further expand their sales network. INDIAN FARMERS TURN TO ITALIAN BEE SPECIES TO INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY
 
Farmers of south Gujarat plan to set up colonies of Apis Mellifera Lustica, an Italian bee species, in their farms to increase production of their crops through cross pollination. These species compared to Indian bees are known for highest production of honey. Gujarat's honey producing industry is far behind than other states. Mellifera Queen bees are of loyal nature and live with their drones and workers in their respective colonies. They have a life span of at least five years and lay about 1500 to 2000 eggs per day. The Indian species' bee producing capacity compared to the Italian bee species is just half i.e. one colony of Mellifera bee produces about 50 kgs of honey per annum in comparison to 10 kg by Indian species like Apis Cerana, Giant Honey Bee. PASTA CONSUMPTION SET TO GROW FAST IN INDIA
 
Italian is soon to be the new Chinese in India. Be it a wedding, birthday's or a treat in India these days, pasta is a must . Pasta now ranks alongside noodles as the alternative to chapati and chawal. Little wonder then that after the instant noodles segment has reached saturation point, packaged food companies like Nestle, FieldFresh Foods, Capital Foods and the Future Group are eyeing the locally-made pasta category as home consumption of ‘Italian’ cuisine rises. DUCATI ENERGIA MAKING EFI SYSTEMS FOR HIGH-END MOTORCYCLES
 
Ducati Energia India, a 50:50 automotive technology joint venture between Kinetic group and Ducati Energia, Italy, has begun manufacturing a technologically advanced, complete Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system for high-end motorcycless. In India, Mahindra Mojo, the new 300 cc motorcycle from Mahindra Two Wheelers, will be the first motorcycle sporting the new EFI system from Ducati Energia. The EFI system enhances performance, increases fuel saving by 7-8 per cent and minimizes emissions in compliance with BS III/Euro III emission norms. IPR DESK DELHI SEMINAR MEETS BIG SUCCESS IN NEW DELHI
 
The IPR Desk seminar on the intellectual property law and technology had a broad participation of over 150 registered senior members of major Italian companies in India and several corporations, including several major Indian companies. There were also several diplomats from the Italian Embassy and other embassies like U.S, Switzerland, Algeria etc. The seminar provided an opportunity for operators to perceive the Italian Embassy and the structures present as close to their countrymen in India, reinforcing the sense of belonging. NID STUDENTS GET INTERNSHIPS WITH ITALIAN AUTOMOBILE FIRM
 
Three National Institute of Design(NID) students have won three-month internships with Pininfarina - an Italian automobile design firm with customers like Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Rolls Royce - after winning a competition to design a possible successor of the Indian auto rickshaw. The competition was organised for NID students as part of an ongoing MoU between NID and Pininfarina that is currently in its third year. The theme for the competition was “Taxi for India”, where students were required to conceptualise a vehicle that could succeed the auto-rickshaw. PMC SEEKS PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIVE BIDDING
 
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is a statutory body responsible for Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) management in Pune. The PMC is in the process of undertaking a set of projects to improve the Solid Waste Management in the City. As a part of this initiative, the PMC has decided to close the dumping ground located at Pune city. The proposed closure project includes a number of installation requirement. PMC is seeking Statement of Qualification from duly incorporated companies, expert agencies and/or consortia (joint ventures) to participate in the International Competitive Bidding (ICB) process for the contract to implement the Scientific Closure of the above Dumping Ground. SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT FACILITIES FOR THE URBAN LOCAL BODIES
 
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority the regional planning and development authority for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region has taken the initiative of developing Regional Solid Waste Management facilities for the Urban Local Bodies. MMRDA is planning to setup up the Regional Solid Waste Management Facility at Taloja on a Public Pvt. Partnership model and is looking to engage reputed entities with experience in management of municipal solid waste through viable and sustainable technologies. KOLKATA METRO LOOKING TO GET RAKES FROM PVT. MANUFACTURERS
 
Launched in 1984, Kolkata’s ageing metro trains break down often. Kolkata Metro is now looking to get rakes from pvt. manufacturers, but companies that could potentially supply rakes want it to either place a sizeable order immediately or make a firm commitment to get more in the future. The reason for this is that Kolkata’s metro trains run on a wider track, where technologies need to be adapted, and this would entail substantial capital expenditure on the assembly line. By February, bids are to be invited from pvt manufacturers for at least 14 air-conditioned rakes. Kolkata Metro would need at least 40-50 more rakes within eight years. INDIA: STATE PROFILE OF JHARKHAND - Industry Profile 2010
 
The decade old State in the Eastern Region of India with 27 Million people has experienced 9.32% growth in the GSDP ( Gross State Domestic Product) during 2009-10 with Mining & Quarrying contributing 11.34% of the total GSDP of €12,946 Million. This is followed by the share of Agriculture & Animal Husbandry (8%) and Forestry & Logging (1.48%). 'Mining' ,'Heavy Engineering', 'Auto Components',' Agro Industry' ,'Chemicals', and 'Information Technology (IT)& Electronics' have been delineated as the most attractive sectors for the investors. 1 DEC – 16 JAN MUMBAI: ANISH KAPOOR EXHIBIT AT MEHBOOB STUDIOS
 
# The first-ever showcase of Anish Kapoor, one of the most influential sculptors of his generation will be presented at the Mehboob Studios, Mumbai. The showcase is presented by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and the National Galery of Modern Art, together with the British Council and Lisson Galery in association with Louis Vuitton. It will focus on a different strand of the artist's practice and together will form one of the largest and most ambitious showcases of the artist's work ever to be shown. It will feature a selection of sculptures and installations spanning the breadth of his career, from early pigment-based works of the 1980s, to his most recent wax installations. 7 – 15 JAN  MUMBAI: DADUMPOP ITALIAN CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBIT
 
The Embassy of Italy in India is pleased to present Dadumpop, an exhibit of Italian Contemporary Art in Mumbai at the BMB Queens Mansion, Ground Floor, G.T. Marg, Next to Cathedral (Middle) School, Fort. The exhibit focuses on the relations between New Pop, Pop and Dada, in an attempt to outline their influences over contemporary art. The man who represents the fundamental break and turning point in the history of twentieth century art is none other than Marcel Duchamp. This exhibit originates from a desire to understand what the Duchampian and Dadaistic legacies found in Italian neo-pop are, as well as the need to give a definition and historicization to this artistic reality. The exhibit will also be held in Calcutta and New Delhi.
 
20 – 23 JANNEW DELHI: INDIAN ART SUMMIT
 
India Art Summit provides an unparalled opportunity for collectors and art enthusiasts to view the largest and most diverse showcase of modern and contemporary art in India. ITALIAN FILMAKER TO MAKE BIOPIC ON NOBEL LAUREATE YUNUS
 
Italian filmmaker Marco Amenta whose ‘Sicilian Girl’ was screened at the International Film Fest of India, is all set for his next called ‘Banker to the Poor’, based on the inspiring story of Bangladeshi Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, in India. He plans to begin work next year in India, Bangladesh and the US and is on the look out for good Indian actors. He is in talks with Irrfan Khan for the main role but says things are yet to be finalized. Amenta co-wrote the script with Sergio Donati of ‘Once Upon a Time in the West fame’. ITALIAN CULT MOVIE “CACCIA ALLA VOLPE” INSPIRES NEW BOLLYWOOD FILM
 
Farah Khan's most anticipated film, the Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Tees Maar Khan’(TMK) one that released on Christmas eve, is reported to be the remake of a Italian titled ‘ Caccia Alla Volpe’, directed by Vittorio De Sica under the banner of Metro Goldwyn Mayer. Farah confirmed that the plot of TMK is indeed inspired from the Italian project, but other than that they have changed everything to suit the Indian audience. Starring Peter Sellers, ‘ Caccia Alla Volpe’ is a hilarious film that revolves around a smart con called The Fox, who is also known as the master of disguises. In order to smuggle two tons of gold bars, the criminal disguises himself as a director and attempts the robbery, making it as a part of his script. For more information please click here
