# We spoke with Raffaello Napoleone during his recent business-trip to India. He told us more about PITTI IMMAGINE, it’s history, evolution and future plans.  He also touched upon the newly launched PITTI Desk in New Delhi, within the Italian Trade Commission office. Pitti is widely regarded as the main men fashion show and by far the biggest children-clothing event in the fashion world.

DISCOVER PIEMONTE AS A BUSINESS DESTINATION: PUNE & CHENNAI 14-16 JUNE   INDIAN GDP GROWS AT 8.5% IN THE LAST QUARTER (JAN – MAR 2011)
# We are pleased to inform you that a high-level delegation from the Piemonte Region in Italy will be visiting Pune on 14th and Chennai on the 16th of June 2011 with the aim to present the regional drivers to attract foreign direct investment in the Piemonte Region. The Italian Trade Commission (I.C.E.) in collaboration with the Piemonte Region (Northern Italy) and the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) and the Madras Chamber of Commerce will be organizing an “Investment & Location oportunities in the Piemonte Region” seminar targeted to Indian companies in the Pune and Chennai region. # The Central Statistics Office (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, has released the revised estimates of national income for the financial year 2010-11 and the quarterly estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the fourth quarter (January-March) of 2010-11, both at constant (2004-05) and current prices. Quarterly GDP at factor cost at constant (2004-05) prices in the year 2010-11 is now estimated at Rs. 48,77,842 crore (as against Rs. 48,79,232 crore estimated earlier on 7th February, 2011), showing a growth rate of 8.5 per cent over the Quick Estimates of GDP for the year 2009-10 of Rs. 44, 93,743 crore, released on 31st January 2011.

EU HITS INDIA WITH 5-YEAR TARIFFS ON STAINLESS STEEL BARS AND RODS
 
# The European Union imposed five- year tariffs on stainless steel from India, saying EU producers including Acerinox SA (ACX) are victims of subsidies to Indian competitors such as Mukand Ltd. The EU duties as high as 4.3 percent aim to counter alleged trade-distorting Indian aid to exporters of stainless steel bars and rods, which are used in domestic appliances, cars and medical instruments. The levies affect EU imports worth around 40 million euros ($57 million) in 2009. The five-year duties provisional measures were introduced in December 2010 and has taken effect from April 30th 2011. FIAT INDIA TO SUPPLY DIESEL ENGINES TO MARUTI FROM PUNE PLANT
 
# Fiat is likely to meet Maruti's need for diesel engines in the future from its Ranjangaon plant near Pune, India. This is part of a larger cooperation endeavor between Suzuki and Fiat globally. Maruti has a licensing pact to produce Fiat's 1.3 Multijet diesel engines at its Manesar facility, which is fitted in the Swift, Ritz and SX4. The company is apparently keen to enhance capacity, as Fiat would ideally like to supply from the under-used Ranjangaon plant on the outskirts of Pune though it would be up to Maruti to take the call. FERRARI OPENS ITS FIRST SHOWROOM IN INDIA - SHOWCASES ALL MAJOR MODELS
 
# India has got its first Ferrari showroom. The Italian marquee sports car brand has opened its first dealership in New Delhi to get in on young and super rich Indian customers with increasing love for super lux-ury cars. All major Ferrari models-California, 458 Italia, 599 GTB Fiorano and the latest FF-are available and the prices range from Rs. 2.27 crore to Rs. 3.41 crore. India is the 58th market for Ferrari and the entry comes seven yeas after the Prancing Horse marquee, owned by Fiat, drove into China. But it expects the country to emerge a big market.
 
INDIAN LOW-COST AIR-LINE “GO-AIR” APPOINTS ITALIAN GIORGIO DE RONI AS ITS NEW CEO
 
# Wadia group owned low cost air-line GO-AIR, has appointed Giorgio De Roni, a former chief revenue officer of Italian air-line Air One, as the new CEO of the low-cost Indian carrier. He will replace the Wadia group old-timer Kaushik Khona who will move to a new role within the group. De Roni will spearhead an aggressive expansion plan of low-fare air carrier. Jeh Wadia, the younger son of Wadia group chairman Nuslia Wadia, will make a formal announcement on the appoint-ment of the new CEO in mid June 2011. For more information please click here
 
ITALY’S SPORTSWARE BRAND PAUL & SHARK OPENS IN EXPRESS AVENUE MALL IN CHENNAI
 
Having entered India through an equal joint venture with Reliance Brands Ltd with the opening of an outlet at the DLF Emporio in Gurgaon in 2010, Italian lux-ury sportswear brand Paul & Shark is now spreading itself into the lucrative south Indian markets. Following other recent launches in Hyderabad and Mumbai, the company has just opened a store in Chennai, in the lux-ury wing of the up-market Express Avenue Mall. Designed by the Paul & Shark Creative Team, the Chennai store displays a co-coordinated distribution of space that spells elegance and sophisticated designing that translates into a unique shoping experience. ITALIAN FASHION BRAND NARA CAMACIE KEEN TO ENTER INDIAN RETAIL MARKET
 
Italian fashion brand, Naracamacie, is keen to enter the Indian retail market, and has sought government permission for the same. In an application made through a potential franchisee, Sagar Shwekramani of the UAE, Naracamacie has told the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), of its interest in being in the India market. The Indian government permits up to 51 per cent FDI in single-brand retailing. There are indications that the rules may be relaxed further in the single-brand space, once foreign play in multi-brand retailing. Currently, no foreign investment is permitted in multi-brand retailing, but a change in regime is expected in the near future. For more information please click here
 
TRAINING FOR TRAINERS ON DESIGN DEVELOPMENT WITH MODA PELLE ACADEMY, ITALY
 
Moda Pelle Academy an Italian design-training centre conducted a Design Development Programme on Training of Trainers organized by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, under the project Implementing Business Development Services in Kolkata. The primary intention of the programme was to develop design Business Development Services (BDS) who can not only take care of high-end design requirements in the over-seas market but also train others on design development. The main benefits of the programme were creating awareness as regards the effective utilization of the latest design techniques and modern design trends, exploring linkages and network formation amongst indigenous, national and international design. PROPOSAL FOR SETTING UP A MACHINE TOOLS TRAINING CENTRE (ON-LINE TRAINING - SIMULATION)
 
The Italian Trade Commission, New Delhi in collaboration with UCIMU (Association of Italian Manufacturers of Machine Tools, Robots, Automotive Systems & Ancillary products) is proposing to set-up a Technology Centre based on Simulation Software which will be used to impart technical training dedicated to metal working machines. This will be a on-line Training and Service centre, Expected duration of the training centre will be 2 years (may be extended further depending upon feedback from Indian industry). We expect the local partner to provide the infrastructure, maintenance of premises and a laboratory with some administrative personnel. TRIESTE’S MIB SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INDIAN STUDENTS
 
The MIB School of Management of Trieste, Italy announces a scholarship compe-tition for Indian citizens for the next edition of three of its courses offered: MBA in International Business; International Master in Tourism & Lei-sure and Master in In-surance and Risk Management. JOHN MARTIN THOMAS FIRST INDIAN TO ENTER ITALIAN POLITICS
 
# John Martin Thomas, an OCI (Over-seas Citizen of India) has been chosen to be responsible of the Lombardy region's Communitary policies by the Italian political party Alleanza Di Centro (alliance of the centre). He is the first Indian to enter Italian national politics. His duties will include maintaining a political relationship between Italy and the Indian subcontinent and facilitate socio-cultural exchanges between the countries. He will also be responsible for providing assistance to all foreigners residing in Italy and in their integration. 26 MAY - 19 JUNEMILAN: WOMEN CHANGING INDIA – THE EXHIBITION
 
The Women Changing India project is an initiative launched by the BNP PARIBAS banking group to commemorate the 150 years it has operated in Italy. During 2010 the exhibition toured five Indian cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Kochi, Chennai and Calcutta. This year BNP Paribas is brings the exhibition to Europe starting with Milan. This exhibition features more than 130 pic-tures taken by 6 photographers of the Mag-num agen-cy. Their assignment was to photo-graph, in its various forms, the strength of Indian women who are able to change and transform the country. Their pic-tures give us an unprecedented vi-sion of Indian socie-ty. These portraits show self-aware and proud women who are not daunted by the obvious difficulties resulting from the path they have chosen. For more information please click here
