INDIAN GOVT. IS LIKELY TO ANNOUNCE FDI IN E-COMMERCE IN JULY 2014
 
#Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government could allow foreign direct investment in e-commerce sector as early as July 2014, paving the way for global online retailers such as Amazon to expand their business. A more robust online retail sector will spur manufacturing and help an economic revival, said the people, who are privy to discussions within the new government. An announcement is expected in next month's budget. Government currently bans global online retailers from selling goods directly to customers but allows them to own 100 per cent of a marketplace business, where third-party suppliers can use their platform. Both Amazon and eBay use such a platform to operate in the country. For more information please click here

INDIA OVERTAKES ITALY, IS WORLD NEW NO. 2 IN TEXTILE EXPORT
 
#India has overtaken Germany and Italy to emerge as the world's second largest textile exporter. But it lags China, whose exports are nearly seven times higher. Data released by the Apparel Export Promotion Council, the industry body for garment exporters, showed that India's textiles exports were estimated at $40 billion in 2013, compared with China's $274 billion. Textiles includes everything from fibre and yarn to fabric, made-ups and readymade garments made of cotton, silk, wool and synthetic yarn. Over 55% of the global trade relates to readymade garments, where India ranked sixth in 2013 with exports of $16 billion, which is around 40% of the country's textiles exports. INDIA'S COFFEE EXPORTS UP 9% IN JAN-MAY 2014
 
#India's coffee exports increased by 9.32% in value terms at Rs 2,567 crore during the January-May period this year on better realisation in view of firm global prices, according to the Coffee Board. Coffee shipments from India, the world's fifth biggest exporter, stood at Rs 2,347.92 crore in the corresponding period last year. In volume terms, however, the shipments fell marginally to 1,59,275 tonnes in January-May of 2014 from 1,59,295 tonnes in the year-ago period. Because of firm global price trend, India got average export realisation of Rs 1,61,160 per tonne. This is 9% higher than Rs 1,47,394 per tonne earned in 2013 period.
