With effect from 1st April 2010, every recipient including a non resident/foreign company providing services to an Indian company, is now required to furnish a Permanent Account Number (PAN) to the payer in India. If the recipient fails to provide a PAN number, the withholding tax rate for the Indian buyer would be the higher of the existing rates as per the Indian Income tax act (generally 20%). According to the new European Rules (Article 12 -Regolamento [rule] (CE) n. 810/2009) which have come into force with effect from 05.04.2010, the total passport validity for visa applicants cannot exceed 10 years.
Hence for the issuance of the Schengen visa it is a pre-requisite that the passport validity does not exceed 10 years from the date of issue, i.e. not earlier than 2000.
Application deadline - Schengen Visa Code prescribes that applications should be presented at least 15 calendar days before and not earlier than three months before the intended date of departure. Since the processing time may require up to 15 calendar days, for applications presented after the deadline, there is no guarantee that the visa will be issued by the scheduled date of departure.

The Italian Trade Commission in Mumbai, in collaboration with ACIMALL (Italian Woodworking Machinery & Tools Manufacturers’ Association), has organized a fully sponsored delegation comprising Indian journalists & companies to visit the 22nd Xylexpo; the biennial world exhibition dedicated to woodworking technologies and furniture supplies. The Italian Trade Commission in New Delhi has organized a fully sponsored Indian delegation of five buyers at the 15th edition of CIBUS, the International Exhibition of Food, and DOLCE ITALY, the Hall of confectionery, to be held in Parma from the 10th to the 13th May 2010. In India, the sports sector is undergoing several changes as the country is hosting many national and international sporting events this year and in the coming years. The Indian government is also investing in development of sports infrastructure and is promoting sports at the grass-root level. Growth in sports awareness favorable FDI policies has given a boost to retailing of sports goods. However, there are hardly any academic studies on this sector. The findings of this study will be presented at the seminar.

Vintage Wines Pvt Ltd (marketed under brand name Reveilo) has first launched Italian varietals of wines, Nero d’Avola and Grillo in India. The wines are available for institutional and retail sales. Grillo is the widely grown white-wine grape variety in Sicily and Nero d’Avola is Sicily’s most popular red grape. Reveilo’s consultant winemaker, Andrea Valentinuzzi, is himself an Italian, continuing the old traditions of taking a bit of Italy wherever he goes. Reveilo say that the growing conditions in Nasik in Maharastra are similar to those in Sicily, and this may mark the start of a new trend in Indian winemaking, and another flag on the world map for Italian grapes.

The Home Textile Furnishing Industry in India

Italian Trade Commission, Mumbai, has commissioned this research study on Textile Clothing and Apparels sector in India. Ace Global Private Limited, a consultancy company based in New Delhi, has been appointed to undertake the study. The textile industry in India is one of the largest segments of the Indian economy accounting over one fifth of the country’s industrial production. It provides employment to around 15 million people. The Home Furnishing industry in India falls under the textile industry sector. The total urban market for the home textiles in 2006-07 was estimated to be USD 2 billion. With a modest growth rate of about 14%, the market in 2008-09 was about USD 3 billion and is expected to cross USD 4.5 billion by 2012.

The research covers various aspects of this sector, such as the market characteristics, the production in India, the structure of the foreign trade, competition, regulations and legislations and the marketing and distribution. The objective of this study is to provide European entrepreneurs with useful information to enter the Indian market and to identify concrete form of industrial cooperation with local firms or high range firms together with suppliers of raw materials.

The latest edition of the catalogue of the itinerant exhibition 100 objects of Italian design is now available at ICE Mumbai. It presents some of the most important pieces in the Permanent Collection of Italian Design of La Triennale di Milano. Silvana Annicchiarico, director of the Triennale Design Museum, is the curator of the exhibition.

The Milan Triennale is an Italian State institution which, together with the Municipality of Milan and the Lombardy Region, is charged with preserving and promoting Italian Design as well as carrying out research in framework programs focusing on town planning, architecture, handicrafts, industrial production, fashion, new media, etc.

In its long history, the Milan Triennale has always followed developments in the field of applied arts; from the thirties to the post-war years, during the reconstruction years and the country's economic miracle and later

during the economic and energy crisis of the seventies. Since the eighties, Milan has increasingly become an international center of design. The Triennale played a leading role in organizing important qualitative events that have enhanced the city's image. The Triennale also helped organize the foundation for the Museum of Design. To achieve its goals, the Milan Triennale has established its own Research Center and a Permanent Collection of Italian Design.

These contain interviews / lessons on design by one of the creators who have helped make Alessi ''The Dream Factory'' that we all know and love: Achille Castglioni. He was born in Milan in 1918 and died in 2002. His professional activities spanned throughout the fields of Architecture and Urban Planning; he earned international recognitions for his projects applied to serial production in the fields of lighting fixtures and furniture as well as for his breathtaking installations realized around the world. MOMA’s permanent collection in New York hosts 14 of his works.
