THE HISTORY OF THE AUTOMOTIVE  INDUSTRY  IN  INDIA
Interview with Maitreya Doshi, Chairman and MD of Premier Ltd.  

# On occasion of the recent Indo-Italian Automotive Summit 2011, held between Delhi & Pune in April 2011, we met Mr Maitreya Doshi, Chairman and Managing director of Premier Ltd at the time known as Premier Automobiles Ltd. Mr Doshi is the nephew of the founder of the company which is one of the pioneers of the automobile industry in post indipendence India. Premier Automobile Ltd. or PAL as it was known is often associated in India with the Italian carmaker Fiat which has been it's long standing partner for over 40 years. The partnership made Fiat the first foreign car maker to establish it's brand presence in India post indipendence. THE LUX-URY CAR MARKET IN INDIA: INTERVIEW WITH AUDI’S INDIA HEAD   NUOVO MODELLO DI LETTERA DI INVITO AFFARI PER CITTADINI INDIANI
# On occasion of the recent Indo-Italian Automotive Summit 2011 we met Mr. Michael Perschke, head of Audi India. Audi is the latest lux-ury car maker to have started production in India in the Aurangabad  plant in Maharashtra. Mr. Perschk tells us about the peculiarities and psychology of the Indian customer, the surprise selling cities for lux-ury cars and differences between Indian and Chinese lux-ury market. Audi has been selling Lux-ury cars in India since 2004, however Audi India was established in March 2007 as a division of Volkswagen Group Sales India. Audi India uses Škoda Auto India Pvt Limited manufacturing facilities to assemble the Audi A4 and Audi A6 models locally.

INDIA REMOVES EXPORT QUOTAS FOR COTTON YARN STARTING APRIL 1ST
 
# As a first positive step towards removing significant export restrictions for cotton and cotton products, India has put an end to its export restrictions for cotton yarn. The export of cotton yarn had been restric-ted by quantitative limits since 22 December 2010 with the level being fixed at 720 million kilograms for the financial year 2010-11. As India is one of the main EU import sources for cotton products, these measures have seriously affected EU industry. On 31 March 2011, the Indian Government published a notification (No. 49 (RE-2010)/2009-14) removing the restrictions on export of cotton yarn with effect from 1 April 2011. Export contracts will still have to be registered with the Directorate General for Foreign Trade. For more information please click here
 
 
MACRO ECONOMIC UPDATES
 
INDIA HIKES KEY INTEREST RATE BY HALF POINT (0.50%) TO CONTROL INFLATION
 
# India's central bank raised its key interest rate by half a percentage point on the 2nd of May being its ninth rise in just over a year. The bank said the short term lending rate or repo rate will go from 6.75 percent to 7.25 percent, with immediate effect. The Bank will set only one policy rate, the repo rate, and fix the reverse repo rate or short-term borrowing rate at 1 percentage point below the repo rate. The bank also said that it expects economic growth to slow to around 8 per cent this fiscal year, from 8.6 per cent last fiscal year. To read more please click here

ITALIAN SPORT BRAND LOTTO SPONSORS IPL'S KOCHI TUSKERS KERELA
 
# The Italian sportswear brand Lotto signed an official sponsorship agreement with the Kochi IPL te-am and the te-am members will be using Lotto branded apparel, shoes and equipment. The apparel being designed especially for the te-am will be available for the public as well. In the next six months Lotto plans to launch a cricket equipment range in the Indian market. India will be the first market globally that will see the launch of this new product line. Apart from the Jersey, Lotto has designed an entire ‘Kochi Tuskers Collec-tion'. This collec-tion will be available in select doors of the 45 exclusive business outlets and 150 shops.
 
PIAGGIO EYES TO LAUNCH TWO SMALL CARS BASED ON NT3 CONCEPT IN INDIA
 
# Piaggio & Company, the Italy based two-wheeler and small commercial vehicle maker in the country, is mulling to launch two variants of its popular concept car – NT3 – in the Indian market . It will be a three seater car that has specially been designed for the markets like India. The company will launch an upper-end version of the car, in a bid to cater to the personal mobility needs of the Indian customers. VESPA PLANS TO REVISIT INDIA'S BURGEONING SCOOTER MARKET WITH THE LX 125
 
The name Vespa strikes a chord in the Indian market. The Italian two and three-wheeler manufacturer's which is a part of Piaggio & C. SpA announced plans to re-enter the Indian market with a spanking new facility in Baramati in Pune District. India will be the third country in the world, after Italy and Vietnam, to manufacture these scooters. ITALIAN DISTRICT FEDERATION TO SET UP FIVE CLUSTERS IN GUJARAT: ASSOCHAM
 
Industry body Assocham confirmed that Italian District Federation (IDF) has evinced interest in setting up five clusters in Gujarat. It shall soon be signing an MoU with the Italian District Federation, to set up five clusters for leather products, ceramics, furniture, food and related products and architecture. With a view to enhance technology and innovation amongst the clusters, Assocham has already signed an MoU with Middlesex University, which leads pan-European te-am in European Union(EU). Yesterday And Today brings together a selection of 18th century acquatints by Thomas and William Daniell depecting places, forts and landscapes of India, mirrored by contemporary photographs by renowned photographer Antonio Martinelli. 15 - 16 MAYMYSORE: ITALIAN CONSERVATIONIST DANIELE PINI AT THE 3rd BIENNIAL CONFERENCE OF                               INDIAN HERITAGE CITIES NETWORK
 
Prof.Daniele Pini is a visiting professor in “Urban conservation planning” at the Raymond Lemaire International Conservation Centre of Leuven. He is a consultant in Italy and abroad in the fields of planning and urban design, focusing in particular on urban heritage and landscape conservation. He is now participating at the Third Biennial Conference of Indian Heritage Cities Network to be held in Mysore. The conference is centered on the theme of urban mobility in historic cities and the current global initiatives for urban conservation. FINALLY AN INDIAN PAVILLION AT THE VENICE ART BIENNALE
 
India will host its maiden pavilion at the Venice Biennale, the world's oldest and most influential art fair established 116 years ago. The pavilion at the 54th International Art Exhibi-tion beginning June 4 features seven works by four artists - including an art collective from Assam - is being organized by Lalit Kala Akademi with support from the Ministry of Culture. "This is a historic event because India has never had a pavilion since the fair began. The four-month-long fair ending on November 27 will host 82 artists whose works will be on the theme "Illuminations". The fair presents an oportunity for India to foster young brilliant Indian artists on the international scene as well as to foster Indo-Italian relations on the cultural scene.
