# The Italian Trade Commission in Mumbai, is pleased to announce the participation of 20 Italian top companies in the forthcoming Wire & Cable India 2010. The Italian companies will be hosted under the Italian Official Pavilion. THE REPORT "ITALIA MULTINAZIONALE 2010" NOW AVAILABLE (IN ITALIAN)   THE EU – INDIA CLUSTER EVENT, NEW DELHI 1 DECEMBER 2010
# On November 3rd in Rome at the headquarters of the Italian Trade Commission the new report "Italia Multinazionale 2010" was presented and discussed. The report, which was realized in collaboration with the Milan Politecnico, offers an overview of all the main foreign direct investments carried out by Italian companies abroad. The database Reprint, which is the main source of data, analyzes in particular the participation of Italian companies abroad and of foreign companies in Italy measuring numbers, economic significante, geographical and industrial orientation. The report focuses in depth on the manufacturing industry, utilities, constructions, trade, communications and professional services. MACRO ECONOMIC UPDATES
 
RESERVE BANK OF INDIA RAISES INTEREST RATES BY 0.25%
 
# The Reserve Bank of India raised interest for the sixth time this year on 20th October to tame inflation, and have also indicated that this increase was likely to be its last in the near term. They raised key repo and reverse repo rates by 25 basis points each to 6.25% and 5.25% respectively. Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said the rate hikes will dampen growth slightly and believes that this effect to be only a short run. Bankers believe that the loan rates may not move up immediately though they conceded that the rate hikes would have an impact in a few months. For more information please click here
 
INDIA RANKS 11TH GLOBALLY IN IPO AMOUNT RAISED
 
# India's initial public offerings (IPO) market may be booming, but the country ranks a distant 11th globally in terms of the amount raised in 2010. India's share of global IPOs stood at 3.3 per cent. Amar Merani, associate director at Kotak Mahindra Capital, said Coal India's IPO, which hit the market from 18th – 21st of October, is the biggest IPO in the world. GITANJALI TO ACQUIRE DIT'S BRANDS IN ONE MONTH
 
# Gem and jewellery major, the Gitanjali Group, is in the process of sealing an Euro 20 million deal to acquire Italy's DIT Group's brands, it expects to complete the process within a month's time. The DIT Group houses signature brands such as Stefan Hafner, Porrri, Nouvelle Bague and Lo Si. The DIT brands would help Gitanjali penetrate into the Euro 100-115 million market, this will help the company to get a strong foothold in markets such as Russia, Saudi Arabia, the Middle-East, US, Japan and Europe. IDEA INSTITUTE AN ITALIAN DESIGN HOUSE DESIGNS THE LATEST 'ARIA' FOR TATA MOTORS
 
The concept Tata Aria, or "Bodacious Tata" as it came to be known on the floor of Geneva, is a two-seat roadster concept built off the Tata Indica platform. The car was developed by Tata Engineering of Mumbai, India, in co-operation with Italian design house IDEA Institute. Tata Aria competes with Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo. PAUL & SHARK TO OPEN MORE OUTLETS IN INDIA BY 2011.
 
Italian luxury sportswear brand Paul & Shark, renowned for their designer yachting and golf wear already have two outlets in India, one at the Emporio Mall in Delhi and the other at the Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad. Having launched these outlets successfully, the brand is ready to take on Chennai in December 2010 and Mumbai in March 2011. After these a second outlet in Delhi is on the cards. NEW INDIAN WARSHIP BUILD IN ITALY BY FINCANTIERI
 
A new warship built for the Indian Navy was launched at an Italian shipyard in a colourful ceremony amid recitation of Vedic hymns and breaking of a coconut. Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri launched the INS Shakti at the Sestri Ponente yard in Genoa. Fincantieri had signed a 300 million euro contract in April 2008 to build two vessels. The warship was launched by Homai Saha, the wife of India's Ambassador to Italy Debabrata Saha. The INS Shakti is expected to be commissioned within two years. Trials will start in December. The INS Deepak, the first Indian navy warship designed and built in Italy, is at an advanced stage of trials. It will be delivered to the Indian Navy at the end of 2010. ABG SHIPYARD GETS ORDER FROM ITALIAN MARNAVI SPA
 
ABG Shipyard, an Indian ship manufacturing and repairing company, announced that it has received an order worth $17.50 million from the Italian shipping company, Marnavi Spa, which is operating on the world chemical-product and foodstuff market. The company also announced that it has completed the acquisition of Western India Shipyard by acquiring about 61 per cent stake in the company and has got all regulatory approvals. LORD & BERRY TO STRENGTHEN INDIA PRESENCE, LAUNCH MORE ITEMS
 
Italian beauty and cosmetic firm Lord & Berry said that it is looking at expanding its product range and strengthening its retail presence in India in the next one year. The company, which started operations in India in June last year, said it plans to introduce a complete range of skin care items in India by the end of next year. The firm currently sells its products in two exclusive stores in the capital and 12 salons across India and expects to garner a sales of Rs 15 crore by end of this fiscal. The long standing collaboration between India and Italy in the field of scientific and technological research is all set to be renewed in the coming year. Scientists from both countries look forward to a venture that would bring about mutual gains. Lidia Szpykowicz, scientific counselor of the Italian embassy in New Delhi was in Nagpur to lead a delegation from her country in an Indo-Italian joint workshop arranged at National Environmental Engineering Research Institute. BOOK - SALVATORE FERRAGAMO: THE ART OF THE SHOE 1898-1960

Salvatore Ferragamo had been one of the pioneers of fashion made in Italy. Ferragamo began making shoes for Hollywood stars for both on and off the set in California in the 1920s. He made his first pair of shoes at the age of nine by borrowing material from a local cobbler. At the age of fourteen, after studying shoemaking he opened a shoe shop in his house. He went to Boston, USA in 1914 where one of his brothers worked in a shoe factory making cowboy boots. After 13 years in the United States he returned to Italy where he opened a workshop that produced 350 pairs of shoes a day. # 'Gangaur', is based on celebrated writer Mahasweta Devi's tale of a young tribal woman living in the Naxal belt of India, it is the only Indian entry in competition at the prestigious Rome Film Festival. Directed by renowned Italian helmer Italo Spinelli, the film is an adaptation of Mahasweta's famous story 'Choli Ke Peeche' and was premiered at the festival on the 31st of October. PUNE BASED NATAK COMPANY RECEIVES AN AWARD AT THE ITALIAN THEATRE FESTIVAL HELD IN BENEVENTO, ITALY
 
Pune based student drama group won an international award at the Universo Teatro Festival, for a play about the coming of age of a young Indian boy. It is the only Indian play to get through to an international theatre festival in Italy this year — a play from the Pune-based Natak Company. The Universo Teatro Festival, in its fourth edition this year, comprises theatrical student groups coming together from universities all over the world.
